A 4-year-old boy from California, whose prosthetic leg was taken from him at the beach this past weekend, was pleasantly surprised by a brand-new “Ghostbusters”-themed limb on Wednesday.
Michael Metichecchia, the proprietor of Essential Orthotics and Prosthetics in Palmdale, conceived and donated the custom-made prosthetic.
Meticekia, who is also a doctor, told KABC that he heard the story of 4-year-old Liam Brenes earlier this week and had to help. Meticekchia, who is also a judge, said he was injured
A rare condition called FATCO syndrome caused Liam to have his right leg amputated at the age of 1.
A family member’s cellphone, wallet and camera were stolen while Liam was playing in the water at a beach.
They were under the impression they were just getting a temporary leg. Staff were shocked when they saw the custom-designed permanent Ghostbusters prosthetic.
It’s whoaaa! Liam exclaimed with happiness.
The surprise felt like Christmas in July, according to the 4-year-old’s father, Frank Brenes.
He exclaimed, “I’m over the moon, and I’m so grateful.” They could not have done any better. They hit the nail on the head with this little boy, this ‘Ghostbusters’ fanatic. It’s his thing. The way he smiles says it all.
There were more surprises in store for Liam. The “Shark Tank” star arranged for the family to take a private tour of Disneyland with his help.
Herjavec told KABC, “It broke my heart.” To think about what the little guy’s been through. With everything going on in the world and so much negativity, I just thought, “Why not make him grow up in an environment where he thinks there are good people?”
Amanda McFarland, Liam’s mother, said she was overwhelmed with gratitude.

“I just feel so connected to people,” McFarland told KABC. They’re so compassionate. So much generosity has been shown. There are no words for it right now.
The only challenge now for Liam is figuring out how to slow him down, according to his dad.
He laughed and said, “I’m a little bit afraid, I’ve been trying to keep up with him.” Nothing is going to stop him because he is so quick.
